The different characters are inspired by items from my grandparents apartment. My granddad on my dad's side was a land surveyor and hobby photographer. He had a lot of mapmaking paper and implements. My grandma was a kindergarden teacher and had a lot of crafting supplies for making things for and with kids. I've also taken inspiration from stories about families I've heard and put them together with my own life experience into creating these fictional homes. - Mari-Anna
